Meet The Littlest Baker
Handmade Using the Finest Cornish Ingredients
Hello, I’m Emma — the face behind The Littlest Baker here in St Ives, Cornwall.
I create handcrafted celebration cakes and proper Cornish bakes, made with local ingredients and a whole lot of heart. Baking has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I feel incredibly lucky to live and work in such a beautiful corner of West Cornwall.
A Cornish Kitchen Heritage
I’ve always been surrounded by good food and even better stories. My family roots stretch deep into Cornish history — from a German smuggler who settled here in the 18th century, to generations of farmers, bakers, and cooks. I spent childhood summers fishing in the bay with my Granda and baking in the kitchen with my Grans and Mum.
We made everything from Congress tarts (or as my Granny Thomas called them, ‘Concrete Tarts’ after one particularly solid batch) to Hevva Cake, pasties, and Ginger Fairings. It’s where my love for traditional Cornish bakes began, and why I call myself The Littlest Baker — a name I was given as a child that’s stuck ever since.
Award-winning Bakes
Baking quickly turned into a real passion. From the age of six, I entered bakes into local shows like Porthleven Village Show and Ruan Minor Autumn Show. In my teens, I proudly took home the Ruby Carter Plate for Best in Show at the Stithians Agricultural Show two years running — a Victoria sponge I still remember fondly today.
That connection to Cornish produce, family recipes and village shows is at the heart of everything I bake now.
My Baking Style
I’d describe my style as traditional and rustic with a touch of modern. I love working with natural ingredients and real flavours — if it’s a lemon cake, you can bet there’s fresh lemon in it. I’m passionate about supporting local Cornish producers and you’ll find brilliant names like Cornhill Farm Eggs, Rodda’s Creamery, Trink Milk, and Mounts Bay Dairy in my bakes.
Wherever possible, I finish my cakes with edible flowers, fresh fruits, and seasonal touches to keep things naturally beautiful. No two bakes are ever quite the same — each one is personalised to your celebration and flavour preferences.
Made Just for You
One of the things people tell me they love most is how personal my cakes are. I don’t have a fixed menu — instead, I chat through your ideas and create something just for you. I love experimenting with unique flavour combinations, often blending recipes and techniques to get that perfect bake.
Whether it’s a wedding cake in St Ives, a birthday celebration by the sea, or a batch of proper Cornish bakes for a family gathering, I’d love to be part of it.
